Tell Your Neighbors that America Needs Health Reform
Congress has been flooded with emails about health reform. So this time, we’re trying something different. Members of Congress pay close attention to letters to the editors of local newspapers. We’ve created the online form below to enable you to quickly send a short message to newspapers in a wide radius around your home. This tool will work anywhere in the USA, so please tell your friends and family to send in letters as well.

Here's Your Assignment
Below are some talking points you can use in your letter. Most newspapers have a word limit for these letters (often 250 words, and only 150 words for the Oregonian's print edition) so keep it short. Remember that a message is always best when you use your own words, so copy and paste sparingly. When you hit the submit button, your letter will be delivered to the editors of several newspapers in your region.

Here’s are some thoughts to consider:

  • AMERICA NEEDS HEALTH REFORM; pretending a problem doesn't exist will not make it go away.
  • We can see the crisis point ahead of us and it's our responsibility to do something now - BEFORE things get worse.
  • While most of us are insured, each day more Americans are at risk of losing their access to insurance because of job loss, employer cutbacks or an illness.
  • Americans are tired of spending more on health care than any other nation and being 35th in terms of the health outcomes.
  • We believe our system can do these things simultaneously - improve health, lower costs, and improve our experience with health providers.
  • Maintaining my health is a responsibility I share with my doctor and other providers, and I do not want my options dictated by an insurance company.
  • Insurance is an important protection, but if congress is going to require that everyone purchase health insurance, then we must all have an affordable option. America should not require that all people purchase insurance without allowing us the choice of a publicly-owned health insurance plan.
This challenge requires American creativity resulting in a solution that invests in our health and guarantees all people affordable, quality health care when they need it. The sooner we can get these reforms started, the sooner we can lighten the burden of health costs on American families and businesses. We can’t wait. We can do better.
